Just 20 minutes away you’ll be amongst the famous Gimblett Gravels, Hawkes Bay’s premiere wine-growing region. Stop in and taste some of the finest vintages on offer or sample some of the area’s local produce at one of the numerous award-winning winery restaurants.
For those who love the great outdoors and have a thirst for adventure, a bike ride or a hike scaling Te Mata Peak, might be more to your liking. The stunning views once you reach the top, are well worth the workout.
Hawke’s Bay boasts the largest network of cycle paths in the country, which are great to ride any time of year and cater for any riding level. Explore the cafes and wineries around Napier and Hastings whilst cycling the trails that run beside the Pacific Coast and alongside three major rivers.
For the kids – there are plenty of parks within walking distance from The Woolshed Apartment 5. In the warmer months they will love the local family water fun park, ‘Splash Planet’, and for the bird lovers, Cape Kidnappers, with the world's largest mainland bird colonies.
Black Barn has open air concerts, is a great wedding venue and also open air cinema during the month of January. Black Barn is just a 5 min drive or 25 min walk from Apartment 5.
Further afield, a 25-minute drive away, the City of Napier’s promenade boasts a huge selection of activities, Mini-golf, a skate park, enclosed playground areas, BMX tracks and the National Aquarium of New Zealand, are all within walking distance of each other.
Twenty two kms away is the Art Deco city of Napier, which was rebuilt after the devastating 1931 Earthquake. The city is a preserved moment in time with its eye-catching buildings. Take a guided walking tour to learn all about this city’s history, explore the many unique and interesting shops, or the waterfront with its many activities on offer.
Two golden sandy beaches are also just a short drive away. Ocean Beach and Waimarama are popular with both surfers and families and the underdeveloped and un-spoilt coastline is well worth a visit for those who love the water.
